About the Instructors:
When Deborah Jarchow discovered weaving in 1996, her life-long love of
fiber, texture, and color came together. She is a full-time weaver who
has created hundreds of garments and accessories for sale and exhibition
across the country. Although known mostly for her success with rayon chenille
wearable art, she weaves many different one-of-a-kind items including
large scale wall pieces.
Deborah has won numerous awards and has written articles for Handwoven
Magazine. Since 2005 she has been an Artist-in-Residence, a teacher, and
weaver at Studio Channel Islands Art Center in Camarillo, CA. Deborah
Jarchow has been very instrumental in helping to develop the Fiber Art
Studio at the center.
Gerri Johnson-McMillin has been creating fiber art since 1972. Although
her main interest is basketry, she does enjoy weaving and knotting along
with other fiber art. Gerri is known for her Fishbone Vessels and Knotted
Fiber Sculptures. She is an international and national exhibiting artist
and has her work in the permanent collections of the Long Beach Museum
of Art and Ventura County Museum. Her work can also be seen in several
books. Since 1999, Gerri has been an Artist-in-Residence at Studio Channel
Islands Art Center and has been very instrumental in developing the Fiber
Art Studio at the Center. Gerri teaches basketry and other fiber related
workshops.
Whether you are an established or budding artist, an
avid collector, or are just beginning to explore the arts, you'll find
stimulating talks, exhibits and hands-on workshops in the coming year
at SCIART and at our new annex in Oxnard, SCIART West. We invite you to
take advantage of the art center as a resource for contemporary art and
